Every year in Cauterets, the Rencontres Pyrénéennes celebrate the memory of Alphonse Meillon, an emblematic figure of Pyreneanism, while at the same time opening windows onto contemporary mountain issues.

The programme includes lectures, film screenings, exhibitions, guided walks, meetings with specialists and discussions on natural heritage, pastoralism, biodiversity and the history of the Pyrenees.

For several days, the public is invited to discover a rich and accessible programme:

  • Conferences and round tables led by specialists in Pyreneanism, pastoralism and the environment;
  • Screenings and exhibitions on natural heritage, old archives and mountain photography;
  • Guided walks, meetings with local players, opportunities to exchange ideas and share experiences;
  • Focus on current issues: biodiversity, preservation of environments, changing practices, memory of the valleys.

The Rencontres Pyrénéennes are much more than a series of events: they provide a forum for dialogue between scientists, enthusiasts, residents, visitors and mountain professionals. They provide an opportunity to understand how the Pyrenees have been told, lived and reinvented over time.

A cultural and natural event that highlights the richness of the Pyrenees and the deep attachment to the region.
