In Cauterets, we believe that sustainable mountain tourism is first and foremost a daily concern. For our visitors and residents alike, we take concrete action to preserve our environment, our heritage and our quality of life.

Cauterets, a mountain committed to everyday life

Awarded the Flocon Vert (2 flakes) label by Mountain Riders, Cauterets is one of a number of mountain destinations recognised for their commitment to a more responsible future.

Preserving our natural and cultural environment

Cauterets is naturally committed to working alongside the Pyrenees National Park to protect the richness of its landscapes and biodiversity, as well as its cultural heritage.
In the heart of the Park, every gesture counts: regulations on architecture, traffic and outdoor activities aim to limit the impact of everyday life.

We have also signed the “Zero Waste 2030” Charter, a further step towards a cleaner and more respectful region.

Concrete, visible action on a daily basis

  • Encouraging soft mobility: development of local shuttles, creation of bicycle parking facilities and furniture, and full public transport services to the village and the Pont d’Espagne.
  • Encouraging sustainable accommodation: the Maison des saisonniers, planned for 2026, will provide dignified and comfortable accommodation for those who bring the resort to life.
  • Preserving natural resources: only 4% of artificial snow is produced each winter – here, natural is the rule.
  • Supporting local producers: the Restaurant du Lys has been awarded the Hapy Saveur label, which promotes organic, fresh and local produce.
  • Reducing our waste: 90% of the ski area’s waste is now recycled or composted.
  • Favouring renovation: rather than building, we renovate. To preserve the village’s listed architecture and pass on this heritage to future generations.
  • Making the most of local energy sources:thermal water heats several public buildings. Here, nothing is lost, everything is transformed.

a year-round destination

Cauterets welcomes visitors every season. Whether it’s for a spa treatment, nature walks or winter skiing…

A living, responsible mountain

Cauterets has also been a “Land of Mountaineering” since 2022, a label that celebrates the diversity of mountain activities and respect for this unique environment.

Rewards are all very well. But the most important thing is for everyone to enjoy them to the full. So, in Cauterets, we leave the car in the car park, we breathe, we share…
Together, residents, visitors and local players, we’re bringing an authentic, sustainable mountain to life.
